Nikola's impressions from Hyogo College
My internship took place in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Every morning, the on-duty doctor presented me the program and I was free to choose which procedures / examinations to attend. Within a month I was able to see almost all the procedures in the specialty several times. This was extremely helpful for me because I knew some of the procedures only from the textbooks. Operations were conducted every Tuesday and Friday. I had the opportunity to participate in all open uncomplicated operations as a second assistant and most operative births. The rest of the time I was observing laparoscopic and robot-assisted surgeries. All the doctors in the ward were responsive to me and explained each procedure in detail. The weekly report was conducted in English in my presence.
Japan really exceeded my expectations, both in terms of the usefulness of the internship, and with its beautiful nature and rich culture (we've all heard of them, but it's quite different to experience them). The university is located in Kansai District, which is rich in landmarks. On my free weekends I was able to visit Osaka, Kyoto and Nara. I was fortunate enough to be there during the most beautiful autumn days.
I would recommend the internship to anyone who has even a slight curiosity about Japanese culture and wants to see the biggest technological advances in medicine.
