My Erasmus+ Adventure in Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany!
Erasmus+ Period: 01.04 - 31.07.2025
After a long and intensive preparation process involving extensive documentation and coordination, the opportunity to undertake an Erasmus clinical internship at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin proved to be more than worth the effort. From the very first day, I was genuinely impressed by the high level of organization, clear structure, and professionalism within the hospital, which created an ideal environment for learning and clinical development.
During my Erasmus clinical internship, I rotated through several departments, each offering unique and highly educational experiences.
In the Department of Gastroenterology, I encountered a wide range of complex cases, including oncological patients and individuals with inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. I found the diagnostic approach, interdisciplinary collaboration, and individualized patient management particularly interesting and valuable for my clinical training.
During my rotation in General and Visceral Surgery, I actively assisted in surgical procedures and had the opportunity to participate in transplant surgeries. This experience provided firsthand insight into advanced surgical techniques, perioperative care, and the importance of precise teamwork in high-level surgical settings.
In the Emergency Department, I worked with high-risk acute patients, which significantly strengthened my clinical decision-making, prioritization skills, and ability to remain focused and effective in critical situations.
Overall, this was an exceptional Erasmus experience that contributed greatly to both my professional and personal development. I am truly grateful for this opportunity and would highly recommend Erasmus clinical internships to any medical student seeking meaningful, hands-on experience in an international and academically stimulating environment.
